Description
The Pallas cat, also known as the “manul”, has an exceptional ability to survive in extreme environmental conditions. The colour of its fur, its low-set ears and its flat head are assets that enable it to camouflage itself effectively in the landscape when on the prowl. Its eyes are yellow with green shades, and their pupils are round, an unusual feature in small felines.
THREATS AND PRESERVATION
The Pallas cat faces serious threats, mainly from the degradation of its natural habitat. In addition, the decline in its prey is contributing to its own decline, while it is itself targeted by poachers, mainly for its fur.
